The Anticoagulation Forum’s Centers of Excellence offer a resource center with links to professional and patient education materials on atrial fibrillation (AF) management, including treatment guidelines and consensus statements, risk calculators, institutional examples of excellence, and institutional clinical pathways.

Atrial Fibrillation Association
The Atrial Fibrillation Association is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness of atrial fibrillation (AF) and provides educational resources for patients, caregivers, and medical professionals. Resources available through the following links include a stroke risk calculator; AF, stroke, and medication fact sheets; booklets; checklists; and videos.

CardioSmart, American College of Cardiology
CardioSmart is the patient education initiative of the ACC. Its mission is to help patients prevent, treat, and manage various cardiovascular diseases, including atrial fibrillation (AF). Many resources are available through the Atrial Fibrillation portal, including fact sheets, risk calculators, and videos.

What is Atrial Fibrillation? 

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have patient education fact sheets and handouts describing epidemiology, symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatments for atrial fibrillation.

 

Deaf Health
Deaf Health provides health education and information in American Sign Language to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Users must register on the website to view content.

Heart Rhythm Society
Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)
The Heart Rhythm Society offers patient education resources, including a Guide to Atrial Fibrillation brochure and numerous AF-related patient information sheets, through the Patient Resources link. Many of the patient information sheets are available in languages other than English.

Guide to Atrial Fibrillation

This patient brochure includes simple, straightforward descriptions and color illustrations that explain the diagnosis of AF and its complications, including the risk of stroke, and elaborates on stroke symptoms and risk reduction strategies.

National Stroke Association

AFib-Stroke Connection
The National Stroke Association provides free education and resources to patients, caregivers, and medical professionals on the prevention, acute treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke. Resources include fact sheets, videos, and decision making tools.

North American Thrombosis Forum
The North American Thrombosis Forum enhances the awareness, prevention, and diagnosis of thrombotic disorders and offers forums for both patients and health care providers. The patient portal includes information on thrombosis prevention and treatment options, as well as educational materials, such as videos, pamphlets, and links to additional online resources.
